The short version

About

link42 builds focused security tools for practitioners: useful first, honest about their limits, and quiet until they are ready.

Where it started

One real problem, made easier.

Rule1 began as a practical way to work with security controls: browse them, search them, compare frameworks, and understand how published material changes over time. It remains the first available Link42 tool.

The builder

AI-assisted. Human-owned.

Link42 uses coding agents as part of design, implementation, testing, and documentation. They accelerate the work; they do not own the consequences.

Iain Dickson sets direction, reviews releases, maintains the published work, and is responsible for what Link42 ships.

The repository

Clear boundaries, recorded provenance.

This website is maintained in the link42-au/link42 repository. Its software, editorial content, brand, and third-party material have separate, explicit terms.

Each Link42 project keeps its own source, provenance, licence, and release checks so that a public claim can be traced back to evidence.

Acknowledgements

Credit belongs beside the work.

Rule1's framework sources, historical contributors, and third-party terms are recorded in its own attribution and notices, alongside the material they apply to.
